The new DEWALT DCS358 18V XR Brushless Oscillating Multi-Tool (model DCS358N-XJ) is now available in South Africa. It is a compact cordless multi-tool built for cutting, trimming, scraping and sanding in the tight spaces where saws and grinders can't reach. It weighs just 1.17 kg, runs on the DEWALT 18V XR batteries you already own, and changes blades in seconds without tools.
Whether you are an electrician cutting into ceiling board, a plumber trimming pipe in a tight cavity or a tiler raking out old grout, the DCS358 oscillating multi-tool is designed to earn a permanent place in your bag. Below, we cover its key features, what it is used for, the benefits for professional tradespeople, full technical specifications and where to buy it in South Africa.
A blade clamp that takes the blades you already have. The new Quick-Change clamp lets you swap open-back blades and attachments without tools. Remove the quarter-turn clamping pin and it also accepts closed-back blades, including Starlock-type accessories. That means most standard oscillating blades fit straight onto the tool, with no adaptor to find or lose.
18V XR brushless motor. The brushless motor delivers efficient, consistent power and a longer service life than brushed designs. It runs at up to 19,000 oscillations per minute with a 1.6° oscillating angle, giving a controlled, precise cut.
Variable speed trigger. Start slowly to set your line or plunge accurately, then squeeze for full speed. You get fine control for delicate materials and full power when the job calls for it.
Bright LED work light. The LED lights up the cut line in ceiling voids, under cabinets and inside cupboards, where most multi-tool work actually happens.
Compact, comfortable design. At 1.17 kg without a battery, the DCS358 is easy to handle overhead and at awkward angles. An improved grip gives better control when you hold the tool further up the body, and an integrated belt hook keeps it within reach between cuts.

An oscillating multi-tool cuts by vibrating the blade side to side rather than spinning it. It can plunge straight into a surface, cut flush against another one, and work in spaces too tight for a saw or grinder.
Electricians. Plunge-cut neat openings in ceiling and drywall board for downlights, switch boxes and plug points. Trim PVC conduit and trunking in place, and notch skirting or architraves to run cable.
Plumbers. Cut PVC and copper pipe flush to the wall where a hacksaw won't fit. Open inspection holes in board and trim pipe in cupboards, cavities and under baths.
Tilers. Rake out old grout between tiles with a grout removal blade, without chipping the tile face. Scrape away old adhesive and silicone before re-tiling.
Carpenters, shopfitters and flooring installers. Undercut door frames and architraves so new flooring slides underneath. Flush-cut dowels, protruding nails and screws, cut openings in cabinets and countertops, and trim skirting in place.
Renovation and maintenance teams. Remove old sealants, paint and floor coverings, cut out damaged board for patching, and detail-sand corners and edges that a standard sander can't reach.
Less time between cuts. Tool-free blade changes mean you go from a wood blade to a grout blade to a sanding pad in seconds. Across a day of mixed tasks, that time adds up.
Lower blade costs. Because the DCS358 accepts most standard open-back and closed-back blades, you are not locked into one accessory system. Use the blades already in your bag, and buy the right blade for the job rather than the only one that fits.
No new batteries needed. The DCS358 is part of the DEWALT 18V XR system. If you already run DEWALT 18V XR drills, grinders or saws, your batteries and chargers work with it straight away. Buy the bare unit and keep your costs down.
Cleaner, more accurate work. Variable speed, a controlled oscillation and a bright LED help you cut exactly on the line. That means less patching, fewer damaged tiles and fewer call-backs.
Less fatigue on long jobs. A light, compact tool with a better grip is easier to hold overhead, in ceilings and at awkward angles, hour after hour.
